Spring Fling

Around August - September 2024 NOT YET ANNOUNCED

About last years edition

Registration has been suspended as ACT Sports Grounds have advised that they are closing North Curtin Playing Fields to replace the irrigation system. We are currently trying to find an alternative venue.

It's back again for a ninth year!  Yes, it’s Canberra's own mini-hat-league, the Spring Fling.  Shake off the Winter rust and get moving.  And you don’t even need to bother your friends (although you should!) – it’s a hat so just enter yourself and play, lead and learn with all those other Ultimate folks you see around the place.

When: Wednesday 25 August, 1 September, 8 September and 15 September. Game on at 6.50pm, lights out at 8.30pm.

Where: North Curtin District Fields, Dunstan St, Curtin. A 12 minute drive or 30 minute bike ride from Civic.

Cost: $25 covers field and light hire, insurance, administration, GST and prizes.

Format: This is a 'hat' League, in that players register as individuals and the League Directors put everyone into 'even' teams. If you bring a new player, or you are a couple, you can request that you be on the same team (or not!).

COVID-19: The season will be managed consistent with Canberra Ultimate's COVID-Safe Return to Play Guidelines (COVID-Safe Policy PDF) and any other directions issued by the ACT Government.

Shirts:  This season we will require all players to bring both a WHITE and DARK shirt.  Please no intermediate colours (grey, yellow, pastels etc).

Competition Rules:

This league will be run like many before it.

  • It's a hat league. Everyone will been assigned a team. We try and make them as even as possible.

  • The league will have 8 teams (maybe more/maybe  less). Over the first 3.5 weeks we will play a round robin with two 40 minute games each week. The 2nd game on week 4 will be the finals.  For all of these games the rule for ending the game is that there is one final possession, any turnover or score finishes the game. This will change slightly if we have more/less teams.

  • Gender rules will be decided once we know how many player we have, we try hard to allow all players to register and play so this may result in using something like 4m/3f at all times. As always, captains can agree to do something else if this doesn't work due to player availability.
  • Please bring both a dark and light shirt. Generally speaking dark means black, navy, red etc. REALLY dark colours. Light means white. Please avoid pastels, they're just confusing.

  • Please report scores and spirit as soon as you can after the games.
