The Gong Classic

31 July 2021 - 1 August 2021

About this edition

Welcome to the Gong Classic!

It's our 10th anniversary! You're all invited, and to celebrate, we want to make it a big one!

We're back at Thomas Dalton Park with plenty of space for fields, and for the first time we'll be offering a single-day youth division! Find more details about the youth division in the section below.

Main Division

This tournament is a great opportunity for a hit out early in the Mixed season. Whether your team is looking to compete in the NSW Mixed Ultimate Championships (great opportunity to practise at the home grounds!), the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships, or forming just for this event, it'll be a great weekend! Notorious for being affordable, extremely fun and competitive, players of all abilities are encouraged.

FAQ (main division):

How do I pay?: Captains collect and pay player fees on behalf of their whole team in one payment. See 'payment details' section above.

How do I get there?: Thomas Dalton is close to the train line and the free bus stops. There is plenty of parking in the two car parks located off of Carters Ln. and Elliotts Rd.

So it's the 10th anniversary. What will be special about GC X?: We'll be hosting a great party (specific details TBA), and we're putting a strong focus on reducing our tournament waste while still providing a great player experience. Bring your keep cups, because we'll be running a lucky draw competition; we're rethinking our snack options; and we've put a lot of effort into replacing regular ol' medals with something we hope you'll love and actually use! Not to mention running our first-ever youth division at the same time!

What about COVID?: We have a safety plan in place and will have the necessary sanitising equipment available at all times. If circumstances change and your team decides they don't wish to travel, get in contact with us via , or  ASAP.

I'm U18 but want to play in the main division: Awesome! Go for it – just ensure you have completed the junior player consent form. Bring the completed copy to the event or submit online when you register. Alternately you can email a scanned copy to  or .

Where can I stay?: The internet is pretty good at this these days, but here are our usual suggestions:

Post in the Gong Classic 10 Facebook event if you would like to be billeted and the locals may be able to help out.

Youth Division

We are so excited to be providing a youth division for the first time in Wollongong! We hope this will be an awesome opportunity to try your hand at playing against other young people in a tournament format, outside of a school context. This event will be played alongside a high level adult mixed tournament which means you'll also have the chance to spectate some really high quality ultimate!

Not sure if this is the event for you? Joke's on you, it is! Gong Classic Youth is for anyone who wants to play ultimate, regardless of skill or experience.
Don't have a team? No worries!
Want to put in your own team? Great!
Haven't played much before? Now's the chance!
Played quite a bit? Opportunity to hone your skills against some great opponents!

The details (youth division):

Who: High-school aged players
When:
Sunday 1st August, 10am - 3pm (timing is approximate and subject to change)
Where: Thomas Dalton Park, Fairy Meadow
How much: $20pp (players) // $0 (non-players, e.g. parent/adult supervision/coach)
What's included: Full-sized, lined fields; snacks; coffee van (+1 drink voucher); and some great alternatives to medals for our spirit/tournament champions!
What's the format?: We want this to be accessible to as many players as possible. Club teams, school teams and individuals (we'll help you form a team) are all welcome to register, as long as you're a high-school aged player! Teams must be mixed gender (ratios aren't too important), and will be organised into a tournament structure, allowing teams to play one another.

Registration, payment & finding a team (youth division):

How do I register?: Register via this page. You will need to sign up for an AFDA account if you haven't before (this will ensure you're covered by our insurance in case of injury). You can choose to create a team or join an existing team. Choose the option that best suits your needs.
Don't have a team to join?: Register yourself in the team named 'Players looking for a team' and we will ensure you get placed in one!
Each team needs adult supervision!: Ensure you have at least one adult registrant with your team, and that this person will be joining you at the tournament. Parents/supervisors: registration for you is free and you will also receive a drink voucher for the coffee van as thanks for coming down!

Payment details:
Pay as an individual via bank deposit no later than Tuesday 27th July. If this is not a feasible option for you, please contact us at , or  to organise cash payment on the day.
